BRAZILIAN EVENTS CALENDAR

Starting in 2006, I am going to add here a list of Brazilian events that I see happening in Arizona. This will be in cronological order, the most recent on top. I will include dates and contact information. This is a good way to meet Brazilians, or just people that speak Portuguese and enjoy the language and culture of Brazil (and Portugal, of course).

Perhaps the best way to find out what is going on in the Phoenix area Brazilian Community is to write to Dinorah at the following email. She knows everything!
Se quiser saber o que esta' acontecendo com a comunidade brasileira em Arizona, a melhor coisa e' mandar um email pedindo informacoes para Dinorah. Ela sabe de tudo.

Past events:

Feijoada! (4/2007) Another Casa Brasil event at Romana's house on 4/21/07. This is a charity dinner to help poor children in Brazil.

Carnaval 2007 (16/February/2007). Once again, and again, Casa Brasil promotes a big Brazilian Carnaval event for charity. Don't miss it and don't let Charles win the costume contest. He always wins - darn his evil, painted, artistic soul to heck.

click for image Grand Halloween Party (27/October/2006). As we all know, Halloween is a very tradition Brazilian holiday. Not! But who cares - it is an excuse to get together and have fun. Casa Brasil is promoting this party so it will be great!

click for image Festa Caipira Junina! (21/October/2006) Joao and Alda are having another great "Festa Junina" party. This is a tradicional Brazilian hillbilly-type party with square dances, bonfires, weddings and typical food and drinks, that happens in the cold June nights - hence the name. June nights in Arizona do not quality as 'cold' and we don't really need fires to keep warm, so it will be done in October. Good idea! The proceeds go to a charity for abandoned children in Brazil. Don't miss it! Click on the thumbnail for the flyer and more information.

click for image Meetup Portuguese Speakers Group! (20/September/2006). I just found about this. Nick is organizing a 'Portuguese Speakers group' for all those who either speak Portuguese, or are learning, or even wanting to learn. If you miss this one, no matter, contact Nick or go to the www.meetup.com site and look for the Portuguese language groups. There will be other meetings in the future.

click for image Independence Day! (7/Setembro/2006) Casa Brasil is sponsoring another great party for Brazilian Independence Day. It will be at the Olympic Flame on 40th Street and Thomas in Phoenix. Wear yellow and green and be there.

click for image Cinco de Mayo! (5/2006) Tomales ao molho pardo... Celebrate the very traditional Brazilian Cinco de Mayo holiday. Actually, any excuse is good enough for a party. May 5th is not a Brazilian holiday, but it is an excuse to get together and maybe pretend we are all Mexicanos, or at least eat some very good Mexican food.
click for image Feijoada! (4/2006) This is going to be big - maybe 400 people. This is a charity event sponsored by "Casa Brasil" to help poor children in Brazil. It is at Romana's and she is a brave woman.
Here are some pictures of the event...

These flyers were given to me at the Feijoada, and I would like to share them...

click for image More information about the good work of Casa Brasil. This is a pamphlet with more information about the activities of this charity.

click for image Tucson Picnic. (3/2006) Yes, there are a bunch of Brazilians in Tucson (That is the other big city in Arizona, somewhere south of Phoenix I understand)

click for image Carnaval. (2/2006) Where you find 3 Brazilians under 40, you will have Carnaval.
